OUR HISTORY

FOR THE LOVE OF HOCKEY

Dan is a father of two, an engineer, and the designer/inventor of Maintain the EDGE® skate sharpeners. Many years ago, he wanted to teach his sons how to ice skate with the hope that it would prepare them to ski. Little did he know there was an entirely new and wonderful world of ice hockey waiting for them. From his kids’ first hockey games to coaching his youngest son’s team, hockey has brought memories to his family that will last a lifetime. Even now, Dan travels across the country every season to watch his son play.

Before Maintain the EDGE® was even a thought, Dan struggled with many different skate sharpeners. His youngest son was notorious for damaging his blades right before a game, so naturally he needed to find a solution fast. However, none of then sharpeners were cutting the blade properly, and some made it impossible to skate. After buying so many different products, he realized that none of them were cutting the hollow properly! Dan knew there was a big opportunity waiting for him, and his hockey journey was about to take a new turn.

THE PRODUCT

A NEW SOLUTION

Dan got to work right away. He created a skate sharpener prototype out of a cylindrical aluminum oxide stone, and wood for the handle. After more than 20 iterations and the process of trial and error, he finally created the sharpener we sell today. To this day, Dan and his family have only used Maintain the EDGE®, eliminating their need for a powered grinder.

We strongly recommend that you learn to use the tool properly for best results. We are confident that you will never use another handheld skate sharpener again!
